Religiöse und lokale Ordnungen auf Java
In the heart of Java, in Yogyakarta, the research focuses on Javanese Muslims who feel being in the focus of Arab oriented Indonesian Muslims who would like to purify Islam from Javanese tradition. The core of the research will lie on the way the two groups recognize each other; on how they separate from each other; and on how they mark their actions as reaction on the demands of the other group.
The relevancy of this ethnographic research lies on getting an idea of the direction in which social change on Java leads during times of a global revitalizing of Islam and a global confrontation of religions.
