The Structural Transformation of Democracy. A Theory of Transnational Constitutionalism

Kurzbeschreibung Forschungsthema

During my time at the Cluster I developed and finalised a project concerned with public and private forms of constitutionalism within nation-states as well as in transnational arenas.

Biografische Angaben

Poul F. Kjaer was part of the Cluster of Excellence: Formation of Normative Orders from September 2008 to Feb. 2012. For the majority of the time he was financed by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. His work at the Cluster among other things provided the foundations for a Habilitation in sociology defended at the Goethe University Frankfurt in 2014 and the book Constutionalism in the Global Realm. A Sociological Approach (London, 2014).
He is now professor at the Department of Business and Politics, Copenhagen Business School and Principal Investigator of the European Research Council project Institutional Transformation in European Political Economy - A Socio-Legal Approach (www.itepe.eu). Before joining the Cluster he studied and researched in sociology, law and political science at University of Aarhus (BA, MSc), Humboldt University Berlin, University of Bielefeld, European University Institute, Florence (Ph.D.), London School of Economics and Political Science, Goethe University Frankfurt and University of Bremen.
Prior to (re-)entering academia he was working in European public affairs in Brussels. He has also gained working experience at the European Commission in Brussels, The World Trade Organization Secretariat in Geneva and by the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
