The focus of the project is on international law, this concept being understood in a neutral sense in order to encompass both traditional public international law as well as other forms of transnational law-making. Due to the changing international framework, characterized by the process of political and economic globalization, the conferring of sovereign powers on various forms of international organizations and the emergence of law-making by non-state actors, international law has been subject to structural changes that translate themselves through a multi-layering of law (e.g. the debate on relative normativity and the legal nature of the soft law phenomenon).
