Panel IV: The Aesthetics of Justification Narratives

November 14, 2009, 10.00 – 12.30, Hörsaal-Zentrum – HZ 3

All narratives have a particular semiotic-pragmatic constitution. This panel will examine the semiotic-practical structures of justification narratives from a philosophical point of view and address the question of how these find expression in different contexts. While the first pres-entation will deal with the epistemic issue of ‘Explanation through Description’ and the asso-ciated legitimising potential, the second will explore the particular aesthetic structure of narra-tives in films and their (de-)legitimising function, taking as a thematic example the reporting on the Iraq War.
