Narration and Justification in Cinema

Lecture Series

In the context of the cluster research project "Rechtfertigungsnarrative: Das Beispiel des gegenwärtigen Kinos" ("Justification Narratives: The Example of Contemporary Cinema"), the lecture series will address the question of how narration and justification relate in different eras and genres of cinema. Using more or less classical films as examples, the individual lectures will scrutinize whether or how cinematic narratives can be - or even effectively are – distinctive contributions to the legitimation and/or de-legitimation of normative attitudes and orders.

The following speakers will provide multiple disciplinary points of view:
Astrid Erll (Frankfurt), Daniel Feige (Berlin), Günter Frankenberg (Frankfurt), Josef Früchtl (Amsterdam), Vinzenz Hediger (Frankfurt), Gertrud Koch (Berlin), Robert Pippin (Chicago), Regine Prange (Frankfurt), Juliane Rebentisch (Frankfurt), Jochen Schuff (Frankfurt), Martin Seel (Frankfurt), Christiane Voss (Weimar), Thomas Wartenberg (South Hadley, MA), George Wilson (Los Angeles) and Hans Jürgen Wulff (Kiel).
