Law without the State? The Cluster Lecture Series, Winter Semester 2009-10
15 October 2009
The inaugural Lecture Series of the Cluster of Excellence is entitled "Recht ohne Staat? Zur Normativität nichtstaatlicher Rechtsetzung" and will be held during the Winter Semester 2009-10. The Cluster invites researchers and students, as well as interested members of the public, to the series of five lectures.
The increasing privatisation of the making and implementation of law in the era of globalisation provides the thematic background of the lectures. This development raises a variety of questions concerning the interaction between state authority and lawmaking outside the ambit of the state. Is the development of law escaping the influence of the state in the era of globalisation? Are global systems, such as the international economy, producing their own legal structures? How far does the reach of democratic legislation still extend today? These and related questions will be addressed by distinguished experts during the winter semester.
Responsible for organising the Lecturer Series is the Research Area 4 of the Cluster, whose concentration is on legal theory. All lectures will be held in the Hörsaalzentrum (HZ 3) on the Westend Campus. All information concerning the Lecture Series, the individual lectures and the lecturers is to be found here.
