Normative Foundations of Development Policy
The Research Group Normative Foundations of Development Policy was constituted as one of the project initiatives of research area 4. It is organized by the international lawyer Prof. Dr. Stefan Kadelbach and consists of 13 doctoral candidates who hold degrees in philosophy, cultural anthropology, political sciences, sociology, law or economics. Their dissertations are being supervised by members of the cluster. The objective is to examine, from the different perspectives, rules in an exemplary manner which technical aid, financial aid or legal cooperation does or should follow.
The Research Group acts as correspondent for the OECD Global Project on Measuring the Progress of Societies, which has established the internet platform “wikiprogress”. On an informal basis, the group co-operates with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ), the KfW Entwicklungsbank and the Centre Point Sud – Center for Research on Local Knowledge in Bamako/Mali.
The seminar meets regularly and has so far gone through an introductory phase in which overviews on the perspectives of the participating disciplines were given, followed by group discussions of the various PhD projects. In a second phase an excursion to Mali had been carried out to deepen the interdisciplinary cooperation. Research was conducted on four thematic areas derived from development discourses (i.e. decentralization and democratization, intellectual property, media and interreligious dialogue). In 2010, a workshop on the current agenda of OECD/DAC and a panel discussion on conceptions of poverty have taken place.
