Abstract: In the first part of the comments, Andrea Sangiovanni’s “broad view” of human rights is analysed and criticized for being too broad. It does not provide a sufficient normative ground for the core concept of human rights, and its account of constructing more concrete conceptions of human rights is too indeterminate with respect to both substance and procedure. In the second part, an alternative, discourse-theoretical view is outlined.
