Jean-François Lyotard is one of the most influential political philosophers of the last decades, and his book The Postmodern Condition has generated a number of prominent responses since its publication in 1979. However, there are few scholars systematically working on his political thought today, and consequently many of Lyotard’s insights on questions of justice, critique, communication, universality, and conflict remain unexplored. The goal of this workshop is to reassess the importance of Lyotard for these and other central discussions in political and social philosophy today, bringing together perspectives from different countries and fields.
