Critical Normativities/Normative Disorders

The workshop series Critical Normativities/Normative Disorders engages with a broad spectrum of approaches to politics and society. It originates from the idea that the diverse orders of normativity that constitute the social, political and economic practices of our contemporary world display an inherently critical nature that is worthy of being inquired into with the aid of the widest possible range of conceptual devices. Normativities are critical in a double sense: On the one hand, they consist of an amalgam of problems, dilemmas, hegemonies, injustices, and constellations of power; on the other hand, they immanently provide resources and energies for challenging, transforming, even re-inventing given orders. Normative orders can be depicted as disorders by revealing their immanent subversive potentials.

In winter semester 2014-15, the workshop series focuses on the following topics: peoplehood and republicanism, neoliberalism and financial governmentality, violence, gender oppression and pornography, as well as political affects.
Each session consists of a dialogue between two speakers. Workshop language will be English. Papers will be distributed via email in advance.
