Cavell has been read as presenting both a "decisive refutation" of skepticism (by readers like Michael Williams) and an account of "the irrefutability of skepticism" (by readers like Simon Critchley). On his own account, however, he does neither. This talk explores Cavell’s understanding of what he terms "the truth of skepticism", and evaluates it as a contribution to practical philosophy.
