How fundamental research (still) helps: Transnational research funding for the management of social crises in Europe
The European Union and its Member States are currently facing a whole range of social challenges. Rapidly developing changes to society, from migration to digitisation, create a need for effective and long-term responses to social problems. Public concern comes at a time when funding for social science research is not a priority or is being withdrawn. In the seventh Crisis Talk, we will take a look at European research policy and discuss the importance of key social research programmes in relation to funding of technological innovation. To what extent can the sharper focus on innovative solutions address the cause and dynamics of social crises, in terms of adequate transnational research funding?

Crisis Talks by the Leibniz Research Alliance »Crises in a globalised world«
In the European Union crises have always been an important driver for change and progress. Crisis situations allow the heterogeneity of European politics to be transcended through a common perception of a situation as critical and urgent and, therefore, exemplify the need for cooperation. Does historical experience still show us that crises lead to deeper integration? The Crisis Talks lunch lecture series, organized by the Leibniz Research Alliance Crises in a Globalized World, addresses how the European Union deals with crises and what we have learned from former crises situations.

Veranstalter:
Die Hessische Ministerin für Bundes- und Europaangelegenheiten Lucia Puttrich und der Leibniz-Forschungsverbund „Krisen einer globalisierten Welt“ gemeinsam mit dem Exzellenzcluster „Die Herausbildung normativer Ordnungen“
